Multiple Choice Practice Test Questions

The multiple choice test questions in the Teacher's Manual generally provide five possible answers.  Students should note that each of the five answers is a correct answer to some question.  However, only one of them is the correct answer to the particular question posed.  Thus, students must access recall memory, not recognition memory, to get the answer right.  (See Chapter 4 for the distinction between recognition and recall memory.)  Professor Mowen has found that students who develop flash cards tend to perform better on these multiple choice tests.  Below are three examples of test questions.

Example 1 from Chapter 1.

Which of the below concepts is a component of the definition of consumer behavior given in the text?

a.  acquisition phase             b.  marketing concept     c.  segmentation

d.  exchange processes        e.  consumer primacy.

The answer is d, exchange processes.

Example 2 from Chapter 2.

Product differentiation is almost always associated with which of the following concepts?

a.  product positioning        b.  segmentation        c.  environmental analysis

d.  pricing                           e.  none are correct

The answer is a, product positioning.

Example 3 from Chapter 3.

Which of the below concepts is a possible explanation for subliminal perception?

a.  Miller's Law                 b.  Zeigarnik effect        c.  incremental effects theory

d.  von Restorff effect        e.  alimony effect

The answer is c, incremental effects theory.
